Pointless presenter Richard Osman has revealed he will be stepping down from his role on the daytime quiz show after 13 years. In new episodes set to broadcaster later in the year, Richard's co-host Alexander Armstrong will be joined by a roster of guest presenters.

Osman will still host Pointless Celebrities which airs on Saturday's on BBC One but will no longer be part of filming the weekly daytime TV quiz show as he wants to concentrate on his writing following the success of his novel, The Thursday Murder Club. Adding that he can't wait to watch "as a viewer".

Since the game show first aired in 2009, there have been a number of iconic moments, from wrong answers, hilarious outbursts to Pointless firsts. This clip of a 2018 Pointless contestant rudely mispronouncing Cressida Dick's name has only recently resurfaced when in February 2022, Richard Osman re-shared the clip on Twitter and joked that it was the closet Pointless has ever been to being taken off air.

In the clip Osman tries to hide his laughter as he says to contestant Billy: "I have good news for you, which is you've just made £250 from It'll Be Alright On The Night." he jokes. Richard confirmed in his tweets in February that Billy really did make money from the moment.

Actress Sophia Myles saying Bill Haley was Justin Bieber

In 2020, Thunderbirds and Transformers actress Sophia Myles starred on the celebrity version of the quiz show alongside actor David Graham. During one of the picture rounds she didn't know any of the famous faces so referred to American musician Bill Haley as teen idol Justin Bieber. Audience members giggled and Alexander responded with a confused look saying "What?".

Alexander and Richard can't stop laughing at one contestants wrong answer

This 2013 contestant, Gemma, got her soaps and locations confused when she said 'JR' instead of 'JFK' in a question about an assassination in Dallas. Richard and Alexander can't stop laughing as they realise her mistake and struggle to move on from the hilarious moment.

Contestant gives wrong answer and her friend's reaction says it all

Even if you're not a regular viewer to the daytime quiz show, you're bound to have seen this clip floating around on social media. Two friends appeared on the show and when one gave the answer Paris to 'Countries that end with two consonants' her friend's reaction was priceless.

Alexander Armstrong's shock reaction to being a Pointless answer

Alexander thought a contestant was paying him a compliment when she gave his name as the answer to "Artists who featured in the Top 40 biggest albums of 2015'. "That's a very expensive way of flattering me but thank you," he said to Linda before later finding out he was in fact a Pointless answer! The host was gobsmacked as Richard joke: "Eminem who?".

Antony Worrall Thompson guesses a correct answer worth 100 points in Pointless first

The celebrity chef had a Pointless first when he appeared on the show back in 2013 alongside TV personality and chef Rustie Lee. He answered a movie question correctly but scored 100 points. Fellow celebrities laughed out loud whilst Alexander said: "I don't think I've ever seen that before. I think that's Pointless history!".
