Funeral details for tragic Cork murder victim Francis 'Frankie' Dunne announced

A tragic dad who was brutally murdered will be laid to rest in his native Cork tomorrow.

The body of Francis 'Frankie' Dunne, 64, was found dismembered at a derelict house on the Boreenmanna Road on the southside of the Cork city on December 28.

A murder investigation is ongoing, Cork Beo reports.

A death notice for the dad-of-three on RIP.ie reads: "Francis (Frankie), late of Churchfield Avenue, Knocknaheeney and Blackrock; beloved son of the late John and Kitty, loving father of John, Catherine and Chlóe.

"Sadly missed by his loving family, grandchildren Corey, Makenzie, Isaac and Oscar, brother Michael, sisters Susie, Theresa, Monica and Catherine, nephews, nieces, relatives, Joan and a large circle of friends and the Staff and residents of Clanmornin House, Boreenmanna Road."

A wake will take place at O'Connor Bros. Funeral Home, North Gate Bridge Tuesday evening, January 7, at 6pm, followed by removal to St. Mary's on the Hill Church, Knocknaheeney.

Mr Dunne's Funeral Mass will be held in St. Mary's on the Hill Church, Knocknaheeney on Wednesday at 11am followed by burial in St. Michael's Cemetery, Blackrock.

Gardai investigating the murder want to talk to a person of interest who may already have fled the country to Eastern Europe.

The 40 plus members of the Force working on the murder investigation following the death of Francis "Frankie" Dunne are liaising with Interpol and the PSNI in a bid to trace the suspect.

It is believed the suspect may have taken a flight from Belfast to Edinburgh and then on to Eastern Europe in the days following the murder of Mr Dunne.

Gardai will attempt to secure a European Arrest Warrant for the man. It is understood the suspect had been sleeping rough for a period but formerly worked in a suburb on the southside of Cork city.
