Fundraising event by basketball kids nets bumper donation for Paisley hospice

A messy fundraising event by BasketballPaisley helped net a fantastic £750 for Accord Hospice.

BasketballPaisley held a colour run for their members to raise money for the much-loved Paisley hospice.

The event was also held as a way to celebrate the players and coaches getting back together after covid lockdowns.

And it was a terrific success with money raised and a fun time had by all.

Rebecca Cleary, from BasketballPaisley, said: “After such a tricky 18 months we wanted to bring together all our players and coaches to celebrate the season ahead while also fundraising for a local worthy cause.

“One of our families suggested Accord Hospice after the incredible treatment a relative experienced during the final week of their life alongside the continued support received by the family.

“The colour run was an massive success made possible by a determined group of parent volunteers, donations from Morrisons and Asda and our hosts Decathlon Braehead.

“We are so thankful and proud of everyone who made the day so triumphant.”

Entrants were asked to raise money for either their own charity or Accord Hospice, BasketballPaisley’s nominated charity.

The entry fee of £7.50 was donated to Accord and included a t-shirt.

Lots of fun at the colour run (unknown)

The colour run took place at Decathlon at Braehead and saw participants being sprayed with paint while running through the course.

David McFadden, Accord Hospice fundraising manager, said: “The Hospice was delighted to see all the kids having a great time while supporting Accord.

“The colour run looked like so much fun! We appreciate the support by BasketballPaisley and each of their sponsors. A big thank you to everyone involved.”

The next event for BasketballPaisley is its Halloween Basketball Spooktacular at the Lagoon.

Taking place on Friday, October 29 from 6pm till 8pm, the event is being held to celebrate their final term of the year and return to the Lagoon.

All youngsters aged from five to 12 years old are invited to go along in costume for competitions, games and a tuck shop. Tickets are £7.50 and for more information, go to https://basketballpaisley.class4kids.co.uk/term/62
