Fundraiser launched for Govan dad found dead two weeks after disappearing

A fundraiser has been launched to help pay for the funeral of a dad from Govan whose body was tragically found two weeks after he disappeared from home.

The body of Peter Doherty was discovered in the Greenhill Road area of Paisley on Tuesday, leaving friends and family devastated.

The 53-year-old leaves behind two children who he is said to have 'idolised'.

A fundraiser has been set up by a family friend to help ease their financial burden and cover Peter's funeral costs.

Nicola Forsyth, who spent 'half a lifetime' with Peter and is mum to his two kids, led the tributes on Wednesday.

She said: "I can’t believe you're gone, always said you would outlive me because you were never ill. So sorry I did everything I could to keep you on track but it wasn’t enough.

"I will miss you every day love you."

She added: "I spent half my lifetime with him and we have two kids, I am heartbroken don’t know how I will ever be able to cope without seeing him all the time. I just wish I had done more for him, I tried for years but wasn’t enough."

Peter was hailed as a 'decent guy' who 'idolised' his kids on social media, as people sent their condolences to his family.

One said: "So sad to hear this. RIP Pete"

"Heartbreaking. May all his demons be gone and he now has peace", wrote another.

"Sad. I’ve known this guy for many years around town, rest in peace Peter", said one.

Another added: "So sad...Fly high with the angels Peter."

Police said the death is currently being treated as unexplained but there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances.

A Police Scotland statement said: "The body of a man was found in the Greenhill Road area of Paisley, around 12.40pm today.

"Formal identification has yet to take place, however, the family of Peter Doherty, who was reported missing from Govan, has been made aware."

The fundraiser has so far raised nearly £500 of its initial target of £800. To donate, visit here.
