Fulham told it's 'highly unlikely' they will avoid relegation ahead of Newcastle after Wolves blow

Former Aston Villa forward Dion Dublin has told Fulham it is now 'highly unlikely' they will avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Fulham were beaten 1-0 by Wolves on Friday evening as Adama Traore's stoppage time winner proved to be a hammer blow for their survival hopes.

It left Newcastle three points clear of the bottom three with two games in hand over Scott Parker's side, who now face four away trips in their final six matches of the season.

The Magpies had been made relegation favourites three weeks ago after their 3-0 defeat to Brighton but Fulham have been beaten twice since then to hand United the initiative again in the battle to avoid the drop.

"The energy he had was just drained out of him," Dublin said of Parker when Wolves scored.

"It is looking highly unlikely [they will stay up] with the fixtures they have coming up and I just feel that if you don't pick up points now then the closer we get to the end of the season, the more difficult it is to go on a run."

Dublin was joined in the BBC studios for Saturday's Football Focus by former England and Arsenal defender Martin Keown, and he too agrees it is advantage Newcastle heading into the Magpies' trip to Burnley on Sunday.

"Four of their next six games are away from home and they have Chelsea and Arsenal so that would have hurt them to lose in that manner.

"I don't think they can have any complaints but they keep on shipping goals.

"I do think it is going to be just as difficult for Newcastle but the way Fulham have capitulated means they are favourites to stay up.

"Wilson and Saint-Maximin are coming back and all of a sudden it looks like they are going to be OK."
