Fulham to make Benjamin Lecomte first signing of summer as Steven Benda set for Millwall move

Fulham are set to complete the signing of Montpellier goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte.

The 34-year-old comes in to provide competition for Bernd Leno, with current understudy Steven Benda undergoing a medical ahead of a loan move to Millwall.

Montpellier captain Lecomte played 30 games for the Ligue 1 side last season and will become Fulham's first signing of the summer.

Lecomte, who is in his second spell at the club, was unable to prevent Montpellier from relegation to Ligue 2 last term and now heads to the Premier League.

Benda, meanwhile, moves to Millwall in search of regular first-team minutes after providing cover for the ever-reliable Leno over the last two years.

The 26-year-old, whose contract expires next June, joined Fulham in 2023 and has made four appearances for the club.

The German shot-stopper played 45 minutes for Fulham in their pre-season friendly against Sevilla.

Fulham's focus so far this summer has been on contract renewals, with the club securing deals for academy players Seth Ridgeon and Josh King, as well as Kenny Tete and captain Tom Cairney.

Ridgeon, the 16-year-old who had attracted interest from Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea, has committed his long-term future to Fulham in a deal that is regarded as a real coup for the club.

"Signing here for a lengthy period shows that Fulham produce young players and allow them to have the opportunity here,”Ridgeon said of his decision to sign a new deal.

Fulham have always done their business late, and the arrival of Lecomte means they have become the final Premier League team to sign a player this summer.
