Frustration over 'noisy and scary' car meets on A52 that sound like a race track

Neighbours have voiced their concerns over large car meets taking place on the A52 in Nottinghamshire. Residents have described the situation on the road between Edwalton and West Bridgford as noisy and scary, as large volumes of cars gather.

Following a number of complaints recently, Nottinghamshire Police has increased patrols in the area to prevent vehicles from gathering and disperse the groups. Residents near the A52 in Edwalton said 30 to 40 cars gather and race up and down the road. Helen Fanning, says that there is local concern over the 'scary' car meets.

The 43-year-old said: “It’s really noisy and really quite scary. A few evenings, they’re here and are noisy. People are putting in Facebook groups how frightening it is. It's a residential area, with children - there are kids and people are speeding around.

"I don’t know where they come from, they must be local, I don’t know. I work across the road and it makes me nervous to cross the road.”

Another resident, Richard Haydock, 33, told Nottinghamshire Live that there’s a large number of cars at the meet ups. The data scientist said: “There’s like 30 or 40 of them. It’s a range of cars, it’s a mix of cars and generally nice, expensive cars. They all drive back up and down - and tear up and down here.

“I can hear it - it’s not dissimilar to being next to Donington race track - I hear the exhausts, loud cars driving up and down. It happens every other week. I don’t know how fast they go, I reckon they probably exceed 100mph.”

Jodie Jackson, 39, said that it’s anti-social and is relieved the police are aware. Jodie said: “The first time we had it, there was a hell of a lot. It’s just unsociable - it’s late around 10pm/11pm. If the police weren't coming I’d be nervous but the police come out. “

A previous statement from the Rushcliffe South Police Facebook page read: "On Tuesday night (October 4) during patrols across Rushcliffe, a number of vehicles were stopped and drivers spoken to, resulting in two drivers being issued traffic offence reports. To report road traffic offences in your area, please tell us about it."
