'Frustrated' – James Daly speaks out after leaving Bristol Rovers for Stevenage Borough

James Daly spoke of "frustration" after his time at Bristol Rovers came to an end.

The striker completed a move to Rovers' League Two rivals Stevenage on Wednesday, moving on a free transfer with a year left on his contract at the Mem.

Daly, who joined Rovers in January 2020, was a popular player at Rovers, with the 21-year-old's work ethic endearing him to supporters.

But injuries and playing under three managers in his 18-month stay in BS7 saw Daly struggle for momentum and regular opportunities in a Rovers shirt.

All four of his Rovers goals came in a fruitful run in the autumn, when he was leading the line alongside Brandon Hanlan, only for an ankle injury to stop the Crystal Palace academy graduate in his tracks.

He returned in the new year to a side desperately struggling for form and goals, but Daly hopes a fresh start at the Lamex Stadium can bring regular starts and spark a return to form.

He played 265 minutes of League One football in 13 appearances under Joey Barton.

“I am really looking forward to it”, Daly told Stevenage's club website.

"Speaking to (manager) Alex Revell, (coach) Dean Wilkins and (football director) Leon Hunter it is a great place for me to be at this stage in my career.

"I want to play games, score goals and make the fans happy. My relationship with Dean Wilkins went really well when I was at Crystal Palace, we are very similar minded in terms of football and how he wants to play.

"Playing League One football has only benefited me. I was frustrated at times not to get the game time, but here I will hopefully get the opportunity to prove myself and show the fans what I can do."
