Passengers at Melbourne’s Tullamarine airport faced delays on Monday morning due to a build-up of frost on the wings of the aircraft.

“A number of flights out of Melbourne are experiencing minor delays due to wing icing,” Qantas said.

“Operations are expected to return to normal shortly.”

Nine Qantas flights are affected, along with a number of Jetstar flights.

The temperature in the city’s CBD was 1C just after 8am on Monday, and was expected to reach 14C. On Sunday, Melbourne experienced its coldest morning in 18 years, the temperature barely making it above freezing by 7.30am.

Some snow was recorded by the Bureau of Meteorology at Mount Baw Baw in Gippsland, while much of the state experienced frost.

South Australians also shivered through the coldest morning in almost a year on Monday.

The temperature in Renmark in the state’s southeast dropped to minus 5.3C just after 6am. In Adelaide it was just 1.8C just after 2am.
