From Reality TV Spotlight to Wellness Community Architect: How This Influential Latina Figure Is Building Authentic Connections and Digital Empires in Fitness

The fitness industry promises transformation, but more often than not, it only prioritizes looks and aesthetics. This can leave people feeling disconnected and overwhelmed. As a result, many struggle to find experts who genuinely want to help them build strength, confidence, and lasting health.

Angela Yulima López Guarín, known as “Tatica,” is changing that. From reality TV competitor to Pilates educator and wellness mentor, she helps people use movement not just to strengthen their bodies, but to empower their lives and build supportive communities.

At the core of her work is a Pilates-based therapeutic system she has developed, designed to improve movement quality, prevent injury, and create sustainable, long-term physical transformation: “Movement can create positive changes for entire communities as well as individuals. When wellness is shared genuinely, it helps people take better care of themselves and build healthier routines,” she explains.

Angela’s journey into the wellness industry did not begin in a Pilates studio or at a fitness conference. Instead, it began on national television.

The Colombian athlete and fitness enthusiast competed on Desafío The Box in 2021. This reality series’ survival-style challenge pushes contestants to their limits under extreme conditions: “Being on Desafío The Box developed discipline and resilience in me. It also gave me a bigger perspective on fitness and movement,” Angela recalls.

She says the experience also strengthened her connection with the broader fitness community. “The program demanded a lot of discipline and mental strength. I realized how powerful sports can be in building both discipline and character,” she adds.

She may not have won the competition, but it sparked a new interest: “The show exposed me to all kinds of sports… that’s when Pilates caught my attention,” she shares.

After the show, Angela pursued a career in wellness. For Angela, Pilates quickly became something special: “What I love about Pilates is that it doesn’t just make you stronger—it helps you understand how to move well and protect your body in the long term.”

This inspired her to pursue Pilates training and certifications. She then earned her Reformer and Mat Pilates certifications at Pilates Pro Colombia.

Now a fully qualified and highly sought - after Pilates instructor, Angela works with clients and companies to design personalized training programs geared towards posture improvement and injury prevention.

Through this work, she developed a structured approach to movement training that integrates posture correction, controlled mobility, and individualized progression as part of a broader therapeutic methodology.

Through years of hands-on experience and movement study, her method takes Pilates beyond its traditional boundaries. While many programs focus mainly on performing exercises, her system approaches Pilates as a structured process of movement education and physical reconditioning: “Everyone has their own fitness level and goals. What may work for you may not work for another person. To get real results, a program has to be designed or tailored specifically for that individual. That’s why technical knowledge and an in-depth understanding of movement is a-must in the field,” she explains.

Angela’s work centers around her own three-phase method to help people move more efficiently, recover better, and build lasting physical strength. The first step, Functional Assessment and Diagnosis, looks closely at how a client moves to spot limitations, muscle compensations, or inefficient patterns that could lead to injury: “I developed a set of proprietary techniques, which includes functional movement assessments, postural corrections, deep-core activation, and neuromuscular coordination work,” she says.

Once she’s mapped out these movement patterns, she moves into phase two: Movement Intervention and Re-education.  It aims to retrain the body for safe and efficient movement to second nature.

Hence, in this phase, clients go through progressive exercises to improve stability, mobility, strength, and neuromuscular control: “What makes my approach different is that I’ve combined deep muscle activation, neuromuscular control, and movement adaptation into one system I designed for recovery,” she shares.

A major focus in this phase is building the body’s foundational support—especially core stabilization and lumbopelvic control—which improves posture, balance, and overall efficiency. “I created my method around these foundations because so many people struggle with imbalances. They’re the foundation of everything I teach.”

Her approach also incorporates multiple technical components that refine movement quality: “The distinctive skills I created for my method — biomechanical alignment, breathing applied directly to movement, eccentric control, and muscle-chain integration — form a framework that standard Pilates programs simply don’t have,” Angela says.

Thanks to these technical elements, her programs can address rehab and performance simultaneously. Through specialized techniques, clients develop a deeper understanding of how their bodies function: “I created specialized techniques for eccentric control and body awareness that give clients a level of precision and body intelligence they’ve never experienced in regular training,” she adds.

Another defining feature of Angela’s system is its adaptability. Rather than following fixed exercise routines, her method adjusts the intensity and progression of movements according to each person’s condition and recovery stage: “One of the proprietary tools I built into my recovery method is progressive load adaptation, which lets me tailor every exercise to the client’s exact stage of recovery or current physical condition,” Angela explains.

Anglea shares how she does not subscribe to one-size-fits-all routines: “I built my method to match each person’s recovery stage because I wanted people to progress safely and intelligently, rather than rely on generic routines,” Angela shares. This structure means that every session develops multiple physical qualities at once: “The integration of mobility, stability, and strength is a hallmark of the proprietary framework I developed — it’s not one or the other; it’s all three working together in every session,” she says.

The last stage of Angela’s method is Integration and Transfer, which focuses on putting it into practice.

She says: “It enables clients to take what they’ve learned and actually use it in real life.” There is no doubt it is this practical focus that really sets Angela’s method apart from typical training programs.

She says: “The session isn’t the finish line. The goal is for clients to carry these better movement patterns into everyday life, so good posture, stronger stability, and healthier habits stick.”

Realizing how important it is to spread proper education on Pilates and wellness in general, this in-demand Pilates instructor started sharing her knowledge online: “Through social media, I can share movement education and help people understand their bodies better, even if they are not physically training with me,” Angela says.

With her perfect combination of athletic and professional experience, combined with personal testimonies, Angela has gained many loyal followers. She’s one of those rare creators who make wellness feel real and relatable.

Her videos, posts, and behind-the-scenes content have built a community that values long-term health over quick fixes.

She says: “My motivation comes from knowing I can help people feel healthier and more confident. I love helping them develop better habits. For me, what matters is inspiring change and showing what the body can really do,” she explains.

Today, Angela has over 258,000 followers on her Instagram account, @taticaguarin_. It is this solid following which demonstrates how there is an ever growing audience which sees online trainers and educators as trusted resources. Through her tutorials, behind-the-scenes tips, and collabs, Angela shows a more balanced side of fitness. Her content makes it clear that wellness isn’t just about looks—it’s about smart training, sustainable habits, and staying connected with your community.

Her digital content also reflects the application of the system she has developed, translating technical movement principles into accessible formats for large-scale audiences while maintaining the integrity of her therapeutic approach.

This highly regarded Pilates instructor received numerous recognitions for her contributions to the industry. She was nominated for the Instafest Awards in the Micro Influencer Revelation of the Year and Mid Influencer of the Year categories.

Angela shares that she’s never done it for recognition or fame. For her, it’s all about the chance to educate and connect: “I love using my platform to teach and inspire people to build healthier habits. I can also create communities where everyone supports each other,” she shares.

Angela’s approach to wellness, which is focused on education and authenticity, reflects in her online presence and her professional partnerships. She works with international wellness brands that share these same values.

In 2023, Angela kicked off one of her biggest collaborations by joining U.S. wellness brand Simply as its Community and Market Development Coordinator. She helps the brand grow in Latin America—Colombia, Mexico, Brazil—while training ambassadors, supporting campaigns, and connecting with local fitness communities.

In her specialized role, she applies the structured wellness communication framework that she has developed, by aligning movement education, brand messaging, and community engagement into a cohesive system.

Angela explains: “Part of my job is helping brands authentically connect with people. When wellness is shared through real experiences and education, people start seeing it as something that truly adds value to their lives,” she explains.

Aside from Simply, Angela also collaborated with Evolution Fitness. She works with trainers and studio owners to bring professional Pilates equipment into their classes. This lets her use her expertise and digital reach to challenge common misconceptions about fitness and wellness.

In addition to collaborating with wellness brands, this sought-after Pilates instructor also regularly receives invitations to fitness expos and wellness events across Latin America. At these events, she leads Pilates demos and functional training sessions.

In ExpoFitness Medellín, one of the region’s biggest sports and wellness conventions, Angela has taken on roles as both a brand ambassador and presenter. Now she leads educational sessions and massive group workouts with thousands of participants. And in 2024, she became an official ambassador for the event, demonstrating her ever growing presence in the fitness world.

These large-scale engagements demonstrate how the methodology she has developed can be applied across diverse audiences, from individualized training environments to high-volume community-based instruction.

Those who’ve worked with Angela at events can’t stop talking about her exceptional leadership skills and impressive expertise. One of them is Santiago Campos, owner of Mecca Management and co-owner of several international supplement brands. Campos first met Angela while exhibiting at ExpoFitness Medellín. They have since worked together in multiple brand presentations: “The first time I met Angela at ExpoFitness, I could tell she had a real grasp of wellness and a natural way of connecting with people. She does not simply represent the brand and call it a day; she also educates, motivates, and brings her community together,” he shares.

Campos points out that Angela’s leadership is something special. “She knows her stuff, is super organized, and has a natural charisma. That mix makes events run smoothly—whether it’s ambassador programs, a booth, or a training session. You don’t often find that combination in the global fitness world,” he says.

In addition to ExpoFitness, Angela also actively participates in wellness and lifestyle events across the region. Among these are Colombiamoda and CrossFit-related fitness events. She emphasizes how crucial it is in the wellness industry: “When people are connected to a group, they are more inspired to live active and healthier lifestyles,” she explains.

Her ability to combine education, leadership, and community building has also been recognized by other professionals within the global wellness and sports nutrition industries.

Among them is Joseph Volgey, President of TeamWERQ Media + Consulting, a global fitness and sports nutrition marketing firm. Volgey first met Angela during the ICONO Awards in Medellín and later collaborated with her on sports nutrition content projects for TeamWERQ. Through that professional partnership—and later as a personal client—he observed firsthand the knowledge and discipline that define Angela’s approach to wellness: “Angela is one of the most well-rounded professionals I’ve encountered in the fitness and nutrition space. She has that scientific understanding of supplementation and training. She also has natural on-camera charisma and the ability to educate audiences,” Joseph shares.

Their collaboration eventually extended beyond marketing projects when he asked Angela to design and manage his own nutrition program. According to him, her approach went above and beyond meal preparation: “Her system wasn’t limited to cooking meals; she built a complete nutritional strategy for performance and long-term health. With her guidance, I lost nearly 30 pounds while maintaining a high-intensity work life,” Joseph adds.

As Angela makes waves in the wellness industry, she’s using her experience to launch projects that align with her vision for healthy living and stronger communities. Lately, she’s been diving into something she’s super excited about: entrepreneurship.

Angela is developing her own Pilates brand that will feature professional accessories for both instructors and everyday practitioners. This will also feature a dedicated studio space.

With this entrepreneurial step, Angela wants to create wellness spaces where people—especially women—feel supported as they build strength, confidence, and healthier habits. “I want to change the way people see well-being. Exercise has too often been treated as just physical or about looks. I want people to understand that it can also be a way to learn about yourself,” she shares.

That mindset has guided Angela throughout her career. What began with a moment in the national spotlight on television grew into a larger mission—as a Pilates educator, digital creator, and wellness industry leader.

Despite the many hats that Angela wears, for her, what matters are the connections she makes along the way: “One of the best parts of this work is the relationships I build. I love that we can influence people, not just in terms of physical health but also in how they approach life,” she shares.

At its core, her work is about helping people see wellness differently: “Exercise should not be seen only as a physical activity. It can also be a way to improve one’s quality of life,” she explains.

Angela’s story proves that influence has power when it’s used with purpose. What started as a brief moment on national television led to a full mission to educate and inspire.
