From Coltness High to Celtic Park; Turnbull set to complete club record move

Wishaw teenage sensation David Turnbull is set to finally agree a move to Celtic today.

The 19-year-old former Coltness High pupil was reported to have travelled south this week to speak to English Premier League new boys Norwich, having initially failed to agree personal terms with the Hoops.

The Motherwell prodigy has now set his eyes back on a move to Glasgow, and is undertaking a medical ahead of a club record £3.25 million move.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon said: "We’ve identified David for quite a while. He’s here in the building and hopefully we’ll get a brief chat with him before he goes off for a medical today.

“We like the younger players, we’ve had great success developing players over the past 10-15 years and we see David following in that pathway as well.

“He had a sensational first season with Motherwell and we were very impressed with him.

“We’re hoping that things can get concluded today and announce him later on. He’ll have the medical this morning and if all goes well then we’re hoping he’ll sign this afternoon.”

In his first full season Turnbull scored 15 goals in 31 games, as well as picking up a number of assists.

His graceful performances also saw him called up to the Scotland under-21 side, where he also impressed.

His departure will leave a huge gap in a midfield that is set to be decimated by further departures.

The news comes after fellow Steelman midfielder Alex Gorrin signed for Oxford United.

Chris Cadden is yet to agree a new deal and also looks set to move away from Fir Park.

The club returned to pre-season training this week, with Cadden not allocated a number.
