Kansas State freshman guard Goodnews Kpegeol has decided to transfer before playing in a single men's basketball game for the Wildcats.
"I would like to thank Kansas State University for the opportunity they have given me this past semester," Kpegeol wrote on social media Thursday. "With that being said, I have put my name in the transfer portal and (am) actively looking for a new home"
Kpegeol is a 6-foot-6 swingman originally from St. Paul, Minn. But he signed with K-State out of TaylorMade Academy, a prep school in Pensacola, Fla., a few months ago.
He joined the Wildcats at the start of the spring semester, hoping to get a head start on the remainder of his college basketball career by learning Bruce Weber's system while helping in practice with a redshirt.
But his plans changed after a few months in Manhattan. Kpegeol is now looking to play elsewhere.
"We appreciate Goodnews' contributions to our basketball program," Weber said in a statement, "and wish him the best of luck as he pursues his playing career at another institution."
His departure gives K-State some recruiting freedom as it looks to add new pieces to its roster this spring. The Wildcats have been actively recruiting 2019 prospects for the past week, but they now have an open scholarship to use.
