Fresh witness appeal after crash which left boy, 11, fighting for life

Detectives have issued a fresh appeal for witnesses after a crash which left an 11-year-old boy fighting for his life.

The child was riding a bicycle on Borough Road, Birkenhead, when he was struck by a silver Mercedes car, opposite Birkenhead Central Library, at around 3.20pm on Sunday, August 25.

He was airlifted to hospital with severe head injuries and his condition was initially described as critical, although it has since improved.

Merseyside Police said the driver of the car, a man in his 50s, stopped at the scene and assisted officers with their investigation.

Significant damage to the car windscreen was visible at the scene.
