Frenzied Edinburgh Princes Street shoppers queue for hours outside watch shop

Locals have spotted a huge queue outside an Edinburgh watch shop as aficionados get set to splash the cash on a new accessory with an intriguing theme.

People headed down to Princes Street hours before the Swatch store opened on Monday morning and began to queue around the block in anticipation of the release of an exciting new design.

The Mission to Moonshine watch series created a worldwide frenzy when it was released last year in a select number of cities, meaning these plant-themed timepieces sold out in record time.

Swatch have now expanded the number of shops the £228 watches can be picked up in, with Edinburgh now one of just three UK cities offering these sought-after accessories alongside Manchester and London.

There are 11 watches in the series, all based around different entities in our solar system. From the sun, to Earth, to the moon, these bright and eye-catching pieces have proved incredibly popular across the globe.

It's not the first time a Swatch release has caused chaos in the capital, with the initial introduction of the Moonswatch series last year prompting queues all the way from Princes Street all the way up to Charlotte Square.

According to the Oracle Time, who describe these timepieces as a "cult watch", Moonswatch watches have been known to go for more than four times their retail price on online markets.

However, Swatch say they will only sell them in stores after working tirelessly to replenish the stock following the massive about of income and attention generated by the first batch.

Edinburgh locals who hope to grab a new intergalactic investment may have a long day of waiting ahead of them, but with Monday the only day these accessories are planned to be on sale, it may be their only chance to join an exclusive club of Mission to Moonshine owners.
