Frenchman defies warnings to post video at mouth of active Bali volcano

Frenchman Karl Kaddouri ignored warnings about the dangers of Mount Agung.

A Frenchman has defied warnings from authorities and posted photos and videos on his Facebook page at the mouth of Bali's active volcano Mount Agung.

Karl Kaddouri, a hotel worker in Bali, uploaded photos and videos on Friday which showed him standing at the edge of the smoking volcano's crater.

More than 140,000 people have been evacuated from the districts around Mount Agung, which has been threatening to erupt in recent weeks, and the National Agency for Disaster Management set a 12km exclusion zone around it.

Mr Kaddouri wrote on his page that despite 500 tremors in the last few days, indicating an imminent eruption, he wanted to get out of his "comfort zone".

Last month, social media posts showed three Indonesian priests venturing to the peak of the volcano.

The videos shared on Facebook show the men standing near the crater where steam can be seen rising.

Indonesian authorities condemned the actions of the men and said it was extremely irresponsible.

They were concerned it may provoke copy-cat behaviour in an area where no one should be entering until it is deemed safe.
