Free seaside Splash park opens at Lytham St Annes for Easter school holidays

A new seaside splash park has opened in time for the school holidays and families are already using it to keep cool.

The temperatures might not be that high yet, but children have been eager to try out the new Splash zone in Lytham St Annes' Promenade Gardens.

The facility is housed in the former disused paddling pool area and is surrounded by amphitheatre style seating and attractive landscaping.

There are a wide variety of interactive water play features within the design, which accommodates children aged three to 12.

These include in-ground jets, above ground features for toddlers and large above ground features for juniors. There is also a jet zone on the right of the splash pad, which produces a shallow splash zone, allowing the toddlers who are less confident with water to have a calm experience without getting sprayed.

Costing just short of £260k, the project has been achieved through funding from Fylde Council as well as grant aid raised by the friends group including LCC Environment and Community Projects Fund, along with others.

Ian Roberts, chair of the Promenade Gardens Friends Group, said: “We are delighted to see this project come to fruition. We know from the extensive consultations we did in the early stages with the public, both local residents and visitors to St Annes, just how eagerly anticipated this facility is and we are confident that it will create happy family memories for many years to come.

The Splash park is free to enjoy and open Monday to Sunday 10am to 4pm from April 3 to September 8 (weather permitting) with a capacity of 120 people at any time.

A splash park attendant is available to supervise the facility.

There are no changing facilities on site so visitors are advised to go prepared. The nearest public toilets, costing 20p, are at the Lifeboat Monument, Promenade Gardens, South Promenade and near Beach Terrace, Fairhaven Road.
