Free parking for key workers at Edinburgh Waverley as Network Rail scraps all charges

Key workers are being offered free parking at Edinburgh Waverley for the rest of the month as Network Rail scraps its charges.

Those doing important work during ongoing Covid-19 lockdown can leave their card at the station free of charge until April 30.

The gesture, which is also being offered at 23 other Network Rail locations across the UK, is aimed at workers such as nurses, carers, transport workers and supermarket staff.

Car park barriers will be automatically open at Waverley and the parking APCOA Connect App won't be required.

David Biggs, managing director for Network Rail Property, say the offer will be kept under review, and could be extended beyond the end of the month.

He said “We recognise the tremendous effort all of our key workers are putting in during this challenging time. This simple gesture is about showing we care for those people who are caring for us, from the nurses in our NHS to the supermarket workers restocking shelves.

“We are relying on the goodwill of people at this difficult time to only use the free parking option if they are a key worker as defined by Government guidelines. This is an evolving situation so we’ll keep the offer under review and may choose to extend it beyond 30 April.”
