Fred Vasseur quips "I'm looking for a new job" after…

Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur joked about his acting role in the new Formula 1 film, saying that he’s now “looking for a new job”.

The light-hearted quip came midway through a heated press conference where the Frenchman hit back at reports in Italy claiming that he is fighting to save his current role as Ferrari team principal.

Vasseur lashed out at the Italian press, saying ‘enough is enough’ and arguing that journalists need to remember they are dealing with “people and not things”.

In response to a question about his short speaking part in the new F1 movie starring Brad Pitt, which is released next week, Vasseur said: “I only had to say two words. It was not a huge experience, but it went pretty well.”

Meanwhile, after a slow start to the season, Vasseur believes his team is now starting to show promise after scoring podiums in the last two races.

He added: “The initial goal was to fight for the championship, but I think it’s true for us, it’s true for McLaren, for Red Bull, for Mercedes. We are all in this mood to fight for the championship at the beginning of the season.

“If you compare with expectations, probably McLaren is one step ahead compared to everybody. And we didn’t do a good job on our side.

“Just speaking about us – Ferrari – we didn’t do a good job. We had the disqualification in China, we were 60 points behind Red Bull and Mercedes.

“Overall, I think we had a decent recovery, at least compared to Red Bull, Mercedes. It means we have to continue to try to do a better job each day and improve. I had the feeling that on some occasions this year, we missed opportunities, and we didn’t do the same level of job as we did last year, let’s say.

“This, clearly, we need to improve. But it's true that if you want to win the championship – and I think it’s a good lesson of 2024 – you can’t leave points on the way.”

Following rumours of Vasseur's exit, Ferrari drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc both came to the team boss' side. Hamilton said he was "here to work with the team, but also with Fred" when asked about the rumours, and Leclerc added "we have a vision that we share, us three - Fred, Lewis and myself."

It might be hard to realise that vision if Vasseur gets the call to move his life to the Hollywood hills.
