Fred's response to Man Utd winner with weaker foot after Ralf Rangnick's cheeky swipe

Fred declared he is "very blessed" after firing Manchester United to victory over Crystal Palace with a sublime strike on his weaker right foot.

The midfielder curled Mason Greenwood's pull-back into the far top corner from just outside the area to kick off Ralf Rangnick's tenure with a 1-0 win in the Premier League.

Rangnick is still getting to grips with his new squad having been appointed interim manager last week, and after the match he amusingly admitted his surprise at Fred's right-footed effort as the net bulged.

"I had to ask my assistant coach if that was Fred's right foot," the German told BBC's Match of the Day. "I thought he could only shoot with his left! I'm happy for him."

Fred, meanwhile, was delighted to score the first goal of the Rangnick era at Old Trafford and gave a humble verdict on his weak-foot heroics.

"It’s always good to score in a game, but today we win 1-0 and it’s nice that my goal can be so important," the Brazil international told United club media.

"Of course, above all, the most important thing is the win to help the team. It was a good performance, we played very well and kept a clean sheet too.

"With it being the first game with our new coach it is so important for us to keep things moving day after day and be ready for the next game."

Turning his attention to his goal, Fred added: "With me being left footed, sometimes I try [to shoot] with my right.

"Mason gave me a good ball and in that moment I just looked for the goal and it happened. I’m very blessed and so happy to score one more goal here at Old Trafford, in front of our fans."

How did Fred and his Manchester United teammates rate out 10 against Crystal Palace? Cast your votes below!

Fred's goal was his first since the Red Devils' opening game of the Premier League season, the 5-1 thrashing of Leeds United in mid-August.

The 28-year-old has faced plenty of criticism this season with fans and pundits questioning the creativity of his midfield partnership alongside Scott McTominay.

But Rangnick was largely impressed by the pairing against Palace and Fred is enjoying a particularly fine run of form.

He has played 90 minutes in United's last three Premier League games, while he contributed an assist and won a penalty during Thursday's 3-2 victory over Arsenal.
