Frank Mills dead: Coronation Street and Midsomer Murders actor dies aged 93

Former Coronation Street and Midsomer Murders actor Frank Mills has passed away, leaving the cast in mourning for the second time in a month.

Following the death of fellow Corrie legend Johnny Briggs who passed away this week aged 85, news of the Frank's death in mid February has just emerged now.

Frank was one of the Coronation Street classics and first made his debut on the famous cobbles in a minor Corrie role in 1976 as Ivor Mortlake.

It wasn't until 1995 that he properly joined the cast to play an old flame of barmaid Betty Williams.

That character's name was Billy and he walked into the Rovers Return on the anniversary of VE Day with pal Archie Wardle where he recognised his former sweetheart.

Although the couple married in October 1995 two years later disaster struck when Billy died of a heart attack.

Frank who passed away on February 11 at the age of 93, also starred in Midsomer Murders, Foyle's War and The Palace.

His obituary read: "Frank Sadly passed away on 11th February, aged 93 years.

"Much loved Father to Paula and Ruth, Grandad to Amy, Phil and Lizi, and Great Grandad to Kara and Jack. Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, private funeral will take place on Monday 8th March, with a full Memorial Service planned for later in the year as a celebration of Frank's life.

"Flowers or donations, if desired, payable to Farleigh Hospice may be sent c/o G W Hardy & Son, The Green, Finchingfield, Essex CM7 4JS."
