Frank Lampard will be sacked by Chelsea following the Blues' wretched run of form, with Thomas Tuchel set to take over.
The Londoners have lost five out of their last eight Premier League games to leave them ninth in the top flight and five points off the top four.
And Lampard is set to pay the price by losing his job.
Confirmation could come as soon as today with Chelsea players told not to report to training until this afternoon.
The Stamford Bridge hierarchy are in advanced negotiations with Tuchel to take over as they look to get back into contention to qualify for next season's Champions League.
Lampard steered Chelsea into the fifth round of the FA Cup on Sunday as they beat Championship side Luton 3-1 at the Bridge.
There were no hints of pressure in his post-match press conference as he spoke about his striking options following Tammy Abraham's hat-trick and another blank for Timo Werner.
He said: "I’m disappointed for him as Timo gave a lot with his performance today.
"He was a threat behind, his link up with Tammy, his link up with people around him, it’s (the penalty miss) just one of those things.
“When it’s not going for you, it can happen. I missed penalties, I know the feeling. I know he will feel despondent, maybe now and the last few minutes of the game, but he shouldn’t be.
"It’s my job and his teammates’ job to lift him and he will be fine.
“It was almost a sign of what’s going on for Timo at the minute, it’s not quite dropping for him. But there will be a time when he takes penalties without thinking about it and hits the back of the net without thinking about it.
"At the moment that’s not quite the time for Timo, but it will come and hopefully soon."
Tuchel was sacked by Paris Saint-Germain earlier this season and replaced by Mauricio Pochettino.
He won back-to-back league titles in the French capital and led them to the Champipns League final last term.
Tuchel cut his teeth in management at Augsburg and Mainz before joining Borussia Dortmund, where he won the 2017 DFB-Pokal.
