Frank Lampard sends message to Chelsea fans over current squad and summer transfers

Frank Lampard believes Chelsea fans should be excited about the squad that they have already but that he will be keen on adding some new players this summer.

Over the past two windows, the Blues have not been able to bring in any new players due to the transfer ban and being unable to sign anybody in January.

The upcoming summer transfer window could be another difficult one to secure fresh signings due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the amount of money which will be available to spend.

And Lampard is hoping that he will be able to freshen things with new players for the 2020/21 campaign.

Alan Smith answers Chelsea questions

"I'm certainly excited about the squad we've got, with the young players and if we can get a few additions for areas I feel we need," Lampard told the Chelsea magazine.

"We didn't bring in anyone in January, it didn't work out to be right for us at the time, and last summer we couldn't bring anyone in, so those windows are gone and we haven't changed.

"So I am excited about the squad we've got, if we can freshen up in the right areas we all know that."

Lampard's first season as Blues boss has not been the smoothest, with the current hiatus having impacted his debut campaign.

With him, Lampard has a fairly inexperienced coaching team at the top level, with the likes of Jody Morris and Joe Edwards having not been part of the first team before this season.

But the Blues boss is also excited about his own coaching development next season and his future with the Blues.

"I'm always trying to improve, whatever session I do and whatever the next day might hold," Lampard added.

"I'm quite obsessive about that. Coming away from the game or weeks during the lockdown, I spent days sitting here and jotting down sessions, new ideas, watching clips, games, and speaking with the staff regularly.

"We want to be better. It's what we do, it's what we love doing, and we are excited about where we can take it."
