Frank Lampard's stance on returning to management after Chelsea sacking

Frank Lampard would need an offer 'too good to turn down' to swiftly return to management, as a new role would see him lose his £1.8m wages at Chelsea.

The Blues axed their all-time record scorer in January, swiftly replacing the former England international with Thomas Tuchel.

The change has seen Chelsea's form increase dramatically, with Tuchel's side set to leapfrog Liverpool in the Premier League standings if they beat Newcastle United on Monday.

Meanwhile, Lampard's name has already been linked with a host of potential positions - ranging from Crystal Palace to Celtic.

However, the Sun states it would take a significant offer to get Lampard to return to the dugout swiftly - as he would lose the wages he was owed at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard was not paid the remainder of his contract following his dismissal following a change in policy from Chelsea after the fees it cost to oust Jose Mourinho.

Instead, Lampard's £75k-a-week wages remain on the club's books and there is an agreement that he will continue to be paid until July, unless he gets a job elsewhere.

As a result, Lampard is happy to enjoy a break from football for the time being and that stance would only change if an offer was 'too good to turn down'.

Having guided Derby County to the playoffs in his first season, then taking charge of Chelsea through the unprecedented period caused by the pandemic, time off has been few and far between for modern managers.

It's added that was a major reason why he didn't push for the Bournemouth job, where he would have been a leading candidate, and why he's likely to remain out of the game until the summer, at least.
