Frank Lampard's first words as he is confirmed as Maurizio Sarri's replacement at Chelsea

Frank Lampard is the new head coach at Chelsea.

The Blues legend has been tipped to replace Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge for more than a month, before and after Sarri returned to Italy to take the Juventus job.

And while it has taken some time to negotiate with Derby, where Lampard has spent his first year as a manager, the deal is now complete for the legend to return.

Lampard has signed a three-year deal with his former club, taking on the role of head coach, and he becomes the first Englishman to take the reins during the Roman Abramovich era.

The 41-year-old won the Premier League trophy three times during a 13-year spell as a player with the Blues, the FA Cup four times, the League Cup twice and the Champions League and Europa League.

Lampard brings Jody Morris, another former Chelsea player, with him from Derby, and both will know the youth system at the club very well, which is vital given the Blues have a two-window transfer ban.

And Lampard has been speaking about his pride at being handed the reins at the Bridge.

Speaking to the club's official website, he said: "I am immensely proud to be returning to Chelsea as head coach. Everyone knows my love for this club and the history we have shared, however, my sole focus is on the job in hand and preparing for the season ahead.

"Delighted to be back, so many great memories of this place, the new role starts here. I am here to work hard, bring further success to the club and I cannot wait to get started.
