Frank Lampard receives warning from Ruud Gullit as he wins first game as Chelsea boss

Chelsea legend Ruud Gullit has warned Frank Lampard that he could be history at Stamford Bridge even if he wins a trophy.

Lampard claimed his first win as Blues boss in the 3-2 victory at Norwich yesterday after taking over at the club he graced with such distinction as a player.

His job has been complicated by the fact that Chelsea sold Eden Hazard to Real Madrid in the summer and are serving a two-window transfer ban for breaking regulations on signing young players.

But Gullt, who lifted Chelsea’s first trophy in 26 years when he guided them to the FA Cup in 1997, has told the former England midfielder that nothing changes in the way the club treats their managers.

He said: “Winning a trophy at Chelsea is not a guarantee for anything because every manager who wins a trophy ends up on the street.

“Maurizio Sarri is regarded is the most striking name among managers in serie A at Juventus .

“He is the successor of Max Allegri. And after only one year this man, who was so successful at Napoli too, is back from London.

“Sarri feels there was no room for his football philosophy in London. But, in my opinion, he certainly was not a failure.

“He won the Europa League - and that is a real trophy. But like I said, winning something does not help you at Chelsea.

“The same thing has happened to so many others. It happened to Sarri’s compatriots Roberto di Matteo, Carlo Ancelotti and Antonio Conte - and even to Guus Hiddink.”
