Frank Lampard hits out at Premier League after Everton fail to register Neal Maupay for Leeds

Frank Lampard has hit out at the Premier League rule which meant Everton failed to register Neal Maupay ahead of their clash with Leeds United on Tuesday evening.

The Blues had initially hoped to have their new striker available for their trip to Elland Road having confirmed his arrival from Brighton on Friday evening. The Frenchman signed a three-year deal at Goodison Park, with the option of a further year, arriving for what has officially been described as an undisclosed fee.

However, Premier League rules dictate that new signings must be registered by 12pm on the last available working day before a club's matchday. With Monday being a bank holiday, that meant Everton had until midday on Friday to register Maupay, a deadline they missed by four hours.

Speaking to BT Sport ahead of Tuesday's game, Lampard hit out at the Premier League for their rule - and suggested that he would address the issue further following the final whistle.

He remarked: "Neal registered, we registered Neal on Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock. And then, the Premier League haven't been able to register him in the meantime.

"Well it must be one working day to be registered, we've managed three non-working days - four days of him being our player. I wish I had the non-working days that the Premier League seem to have, because it's amazing that we can't register him.

"I'll speak probably more about that after the game."
