Frank Lampard explains how he will use Amadou Onana at Everton

Frank Lampard believes that Amadou Onana is versatile enough to play in multiple positions for Everton.

The midfielder was at Goodison Park this weekend for the first time, taking in Everton's match against Chelsea which resulted in a 1-0 loss. The 20-year-old sat in the director's box at the stadium and took a lot of time to take pictures with supporters both at half time and after the final whistle.

Following the game, Lampard was full of praise for the new recruit and was later asked about the position he sees Onana fitting in the Everton squad to play. The boss admitted he sees the player as more of a No.8 for now, but admitted he has the qualities to be utilised as a No.6 too.

The Blues manager remarked: "I see him as more of an eight for us. I see him as more of an eight.

"But the way we played today [Saturday] which is playing two sixes, kind of in-between a six and an eight playing with someone else, he can absolutely do that. Whether we want to play with two sixes, or a six and two eights, he can do all of those positions."

Onana is set to become Everton's fourth signing of the summer transfer window following James Tarkowski, Ruben Vinagre and Dwight McNeil through the doors at Goodison Park. In the process of putting pen to paper on a five-year deal, the midfielder could be part of the squad to face Aston Villa next weekend.

Meanwhile, the Blues are in talks for further arrivals. A deal for Idrissa Gueye is understood to be close along with an agreement for Wolves defender Conor Coady, with that particular piece of business accelerated after the injuries sustained by Ben Godfrey and Yerry Mina in the defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.
