Frank Lampard and John Terry in agreement over next Chelsea captain

Chelsea star Mason Mount has enjoyed an incredible season for the club and was recently crowned the mens first-team player of the year.

The academy graduate was one of the players fans were fearing wouldn't get a shot in the side after the arrivals of the likes of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, but he has defied the odds to remain one of the team's most valuable players.

Even after Frank Lampard was sacked, Mount retained his place in the side and has remained one of Thomas Tuchel's most called-upon stars.

And both Lampard and John Terry believe he'll become first-team captain before too long.

Lampard explained this week: "I definitely made him captain that day [against Luton] because I’ve seen his leadership qualities develop, particularly this season,

"His form was developing this season, he’s Chelsea Player of the Year and rightly so because his individual performances have been immense particularly for someone of his age.

"But I saw his leadership skills in his personality developing this season and I’ve always seen it in Mason because there’s a sternness about Mason, there’s a toughness about him.

"He’s a great lad, not always the most vocal but this year he’s starting to be a bit more vocal and he started just to ooze those qualities.

"So I made him captain for that and I saw him as a future Chelsea captain. That’s obviously other people’s decisions now."

That opinion is shared by former long-term Chelsea captain Terry, who believes he'll become a leader for club and country.

He said during an Instagram live session: "Mason Mount is 100 per cent future Chelsea captain.

"He's been the best player at Chelsea this season to be honest.

"He's a great lad, trains unbelievably well, is Chelsea through and through and shows leadership qualities. In my mind he'll be Chelsea and England captain."
