Francis Jacobs 'set for' Rangers deal as US prodigy who turned pro at 14 plans Ibrox future

Champions elect Rangers are set to sign American wonder kid Francis Jacobs, according to a report.

The Athletic suggest that the Orange County star, aged just 15, will make the move to Govan in the summer.

There will be no complications over a work permit as the kid has a UK passport and the deal is said to include a significant sell-on fee.

The midfielder became the youngest player in the history of the American game when he made his debut in 2019 aged just 14.

The youngster has already been involved with the Ibrox set-up when he was selected in the under-16s squad last year in the Alkass Cup.

He also joined fellow USA youth internationals Aaron Cervantes and Diego Lopez by playing in Academy matches in a 2019 trial.

The six foot tall, Californian looks tailor made to cope with the rigours of the Scottish Premiership but it seems unlikely he'd be arriving for first team duties.

Steven Gerrard's side have a strong midfield and the kid would likely join their youth ranks for next term.

The move suggests the strategic partnership between the Ibrox side and US second tier side Orange County is bearing fruit. A deal between the two was struck in December 2019.
