France travel warning as UK Foreign Office guidance changes

The UK Foreign Office has updated its guidance for anyone travelling to France.

On Friday (March 3), the government department urged anyone planning to travel to France to check with operators before setting off. This is because some services may be disrupted.

Unions are ramping up their industrial action after a lull in strikes coincided with the French school holidays.

The Local reports up to 30% of flights will be cancelled on March 7 and March 8 as air traffic controllers walk out, and that it's likely there'll be a knock-on effect and delays on other flights.

A rolling rail strike will commence from 6pm on Monday, March 6, with transport minister Clément Beaune telling local radio: "On March 7, I want to be very clear, travel will be difficult".

Gov.uk states: "Several unions have called for rolling cross-sector strike action and demonstrations across France from Tuesday 7 March. Industrial action may start the evening before the strike day and run for several days.

"Localised or sector-specific strikes could also occur outside these dates. Industrial action may lead to disruption to services. Please check the latest advice with operators before travelling, avoid demonstrations and follow the advice of local authorities."
