France confirm 'very complicated' injury to Everton defender Lucas Digne

France manager Didier Deschamps has confirmed that Lucas Digne suffered a muscle injury on Wednesday evening.

The Everton defender was introduced at half-time in the French national side's 2-2 draw with Portugal, which was enough to send them into the knockout stages of Euro 2020 as group winners.

However, the left back played just a few minutes before going down on the side of the pitch from what seemed to be an innocuous challenge, before looking visibly upset when being substituted.

And in his post-match press conference, Deschamps admitted that Digne playing again for the rest of the tournament could be "very complicated.

The France boss said: “The most worrying is Lucas Digne. He has a muscle injury, he felt a pull behind his thigh. It will be very complicated (for the rest of the Euro)."

The 27-year-old has been one of Everton's key players ever since arriving from Barcelona in the summer of 2018, and committed his future to the club by signing a new long-term contract earlier this year.

The Blues will hope that any injury issue does not carry through to the start of the Premier League season, which gets underway on August 14th.
