FPL Gameweek 23 Tips: Top Three Third Forwards
Cody Gakpo (£7.4m) – Liverpool
Cody Gakpo has now started the last 10 games for Liverpool and has scored five goals in that period too.
With Diogo Jota (£7.2m) seemingly injured again, I think he should be fairly secure for starts, and this will boost his minutes on the pitch.
His recent form also puts him firmly in the first team picture, and I don’t think that will change anytime soon.
Liverpool play Ipswich this week, which is a perfect entry point for him, and he then also has a double gameweek in Gameweek 24 against Everton (A) and Bournemouth (A).
He still isn’t totally immune to being rotated, but I think now is a good time to buy him as Liverpool have good fixtures coming up for the long term.
They do have quite a packed schedule in the next few weeks, but I imagine he will mostly be rested for the cup games.
He is owned by just over 9% of managers at the time of writing, so not only a good option but a differential too.
The Dutch international is at 43% to score at anytime in Gameweek 23 also.
Jean-Philippe Mateta (£7.3m) – Crystal Palace
Jean-Philippe Mateta has been going fairly under the radar, but he has four goals in his last three games and is only owned by 5% of managers.
Crystal Palace have a nice fixture this week from an attacking point of view, but their fixtures in the medium term are great too. In the next six, they play Brentford (H), Man United (A), Everton (H), Fulham (A), Aston Villa (H) and Ipswich (H).
The Bees have conceded 39 goals (fourth most) with an xGC of 37.0 (fifth worst), therefore it is also a good entry point this week for the Frenchman.
Mateta is their nailed-on number 9, and he is the one most likely to score for them. He has also taken the last two penalties for Palace, so we can assume he is first choice.
The 27-year-old is among the most likely to score at anytime in Gameweek 23 too, as he is ranked at 43%.
Yoane Wissa (£6.2m) – Brentford
The Brentford forward has a very impressive 10 goals and three assists this term, and he is another one who isn’t as highly owned as he should be at just over 10%.
He has also played 90 minutes in four of his last five league games, so he is getting plenty of minutes.
Brentford are very leaky, but they have had no issues on the other end of the pitch. They have scored 40 goals (sixth most) with an xG of 34.65 (eighth) and adopt an attack-first style, so they score goals against most teams.
They also have a nice run of fixtures on the horizon, playing Palace (A), Spurs (H), West Ham (A), Leicester (A), Everton (H) and Villa (H) in the next six.
Brentford’s match against Palace is quite evenly matched, and I can see goals in this one. Frank’s team aren’t a side that sit back, and with Wissa as their centre forward, he is going to get chances.
Wissa is also great value at his price and should be easy enough to acquire for most managers.
