Doctor Who is set to have a brand new companion in a brand new Big Finish spin off audio series in the Whoniverse.
Naomi Cross will join the Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker), and Harry Sullivan and help fight a classic monster, the notorious Sea Devils.
The character, played by Eleanor Crooks, is a bored secretary for UNIT.
She is babysitting Harry Sullivan (Chris Naylor), the Fourth Doctor companion who was originally played on TV by the late Ian Marter, on a trip to Calcutta, when she suddenly hears a familiar voice.
Naomi is a karate expert and so will likely stand a good chance against the Sea Devils.
She is described as “eager to earn her stripes; top of the class, trained in karate, and very bored of pen-pushing in a London office”.
This is Big Finish's 13th series of the Fourth Doctor broadcast, but Naomi won't actually appear on the show until 2024 when her episodes air.
But there are big things to come for the character, as Senior Producer David Richardson revealed listeners “may meet her in unexpected places”.
He teased that Naomi has a “huge arc that will play out in the coming years”.
Eleanor revealed: "Naomi is very much like me, she’s very feisty and says what she wants to say.
"And her weakness, if you will, is that she’s quite headstrong.
"So it’s good that she has Harry there to balance her out a little bit.”
Nicholas Briggs, Big Finish’s Creative Director, added: “Naomi Cross has a really interesting route to the TARDIS, via the very old-fashioned Harry Sullivan.
"Almost all her reactions to space-time adventures are the complete opposite of what we’ve come to expect from a Doctor Who companion.
"And Ellie breathes fantastically energetic life into the role.”
