A four-year-boy has been killed in a road traffic accident in Skelton in Cleveland, police confirmed.
The tragedy happened just after 2pm today, with shocked locals desperately trying to save the boy.
Police have confirmed the tragedy, saying specially trained officers are supporting the boy's family.
Officers also thanked members of the public who tried to help at the scene.
A police statement said: "Police can confirm that a four-year-old boy sadly lost his life in a fatal road traffic collision in Skelton this afternoon.
"Our thoughts are with the boy’s family. Specially trained officers are supporting the boy’s relatives."
An investigation into the incident has been opened.
