Four word warning issued to parents after fire ravages home

A warning has been issued to parents after a fire gutted a house.

A TikTok user took to the social media platform to issue an important reminder after their home was ravaged by a blaze. Shocking footage shared by @smokemedia showed a home had been completely destroyed after a fire had ripped through a home.

However, the clip showed how one room remained entirely intact just because the door was closed, which prevented the fire from spreading. The video was overlapped with the text: "Close before you doze."

The TikTok user urged people to close bedroom doors before going to sleep for the night. They added: "It could make a big difference."

Many parents flooded the comments and said they ensure their child's bedroom doors are closed at night.

Danielle said: "We sleep with doors closed and I have monitors in kids' rooms. All our fire alarms are wired together so if one goes off they all do. I hope you’re ok!"

Alexandra added: "My kid's door gets shut, mine stays open so I can listen for intruders and smell for smoke."

Janelle posted : "Always keep the door shut when sleeping so if a fire happens, you can have more time and even a better space getting out."

The advice is echoed by Merseyside Fire and Rescue service. A statement issued earlier this year said: "Be sure to close all internal doors at night as this will help to stop any fire or smoke from spreading should a fire occur."

The fire service shared tips for what people should do before going to bed to stay safe from fire.

  • Close all internal doors
  • Switch off and unplug electrical appliances unless they are designed to be left on
  • Avoid charging electrical items like phones, tablets, e-cigarettes and laptops overnight
  • Put candles and cigarettes out properly. Don’t smoke in bed
  • Make sure exit routes are clear and keys are where everyone can find them
  • Take your phone to bed with you so you can call for help in the event of an emergency.
