Four swimmers from SAI GAF NCOE selected for Asian Games

NEW DELHI: The Sports Authority of India and Glenmark Aquatic Foundation on Thursday announced that four of their swimmers, Palak Joshi, Shivangi Sarma, Kushagra Rawat, and Vishal Grewal, have been selected by the Swimming Federation of India to represent India at the Asian Games 2023.

These swimmers are a part of the SAI Glenmark National Center of excellence, a successful CSR initiative in Sport founded by Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Limited. The Academy runs out of Dr. SPM Swimming Complex in Delhi and headed by Coach Partha Pratim Majumder.

Palak Joshi qualified in the 200 m backstroke event while Kushagra Rawat qualified in the 800 m Freestyle event. Shivangi and Vishal will be a part of the 4X100 m Women and men relay teams respectively.

Virendra Nanavati, Bureau Member FINA said “ We are pleased that the swimmers have done well and made the selection. I wish them all success at the Asian Games”

Speaking on the occasion, a proud and elated Coach Partha Pratim Majumder said “We are delighted with the performance of our swimmers. We shall continue to strive to bring glory to the nation with renewed vigour in our relentless pursuit of excellence”

SAI and Glenmark Aquatic Foundation entered into a unique arrangement where Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Limited invested through its CSR to promote competitive swimming. The Model involves SAI providing infrastructure, stay, education and facilities while GAF provides coaching, Expertise and International exposure. The center was established in 2016 and a second center was established at LNCPE Thiruvananthapuram in 2021.

We started GAF with a vision to produce swimmers of International quality and this performance has reinforced our faith in our project. This is a stepping stone for greater things ahead, I would congratulate the swimmers and coaches and thank everyone at SAI for their unwavering support to us”
