Four sleeping positions that can help with Covid symptoms revealed by NHS doctor

An NHS doctor has shared four positions that may help those with Covid-19 sleep easier at night.

Common symptoms of the Omicron strain are body aches, lower back pain, and night sweats - all of which can make getting a good night sleep challenging.

Fortunately, Dr Naveed Iqbal revealed that there are certain positions that can help you sleep better if you are currently sick with Covid.

The NHS Primary Care practitioner took to TikTok to share a video of four different body arrangements that may help.

In the video, he states that the four positions all help "improve oxygen in the lungs".

Since Covid-19 is a respiratory virus, increasing oxygen flow around the body is very important.

Every one of the sleeping positions seen in the video involves lying on your front, as this prevents your heart or stomach from constricting air flow to the lungs.

The NHS itself has named all of the positions seen in the TikTok and given guidance on how to do them correctly.

Position 1

The first full prone position (TikTok / @dr.naveedbey)

The first position is called the full prone position, and involves laying on your front with your head turned to one side and both arms tucked under your chest and shoulders.

You should also consider adding an extra pillow under your shins to offload the hamstrings and pressure on the toes.

Position 2

The second full prone configuration (TikTok / @dr.naveedbey)

This is also known as the full prone, but as can be seen the position is slightly different.

To try this position, lay on your front with your head turned to one side and put both arms out and up next to your head.

This time, place an additional pillow under your abdomen.

Position 3

The third and final full prone position (TikTok / @dr.naveedbey)

This is the final configuration of the full prone position.

It involves laying on your front with your head turned to one side and lifting the leg on the same side out at 90 degrees - you should support this leg with a pillow. As for your arms, you can place them wherever is comfortable.

Position 4

The Side lie with partial prone position (TikTok / @dr.naveedbey)

This is known as the side lie with partial prone position.

Lay on your side as much as possible with a pillow under your trunk and another under your knees for support - though only the latter can be seen in the TikTok.
