Four fire engines rush to tackle blaze at Stockport building

Four fire engines were called to attend a blaze at a building in Stockport.

Crews from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) received reports of the fire on Wellington Street at around 8pm on Saturday evening (June 24). Engines from Whitehill, Cheadle, Offerton and Wythenshawe fire stations were all called to attend.

Pictures from the scene showed firefighters attending Victoria House, a 13,000 sq ft office building on the corner of Wellington Street. Social media blogger Stockport Tourism reported the fire had occurred on the top floor of the building, which is said to be derelict.

Two hose reels, six breathing apparatus and particle masks were all used to help extinguish the fire. A cordon was in place, with the road closed, whilst crews attended the scene. The road is now fully reopen.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Shortly after 8pm yesterday evening (Saturday 24 June) four fire engines from Whitehill, Cheadle, Offerton and Wythenshawe fire stations were called to attend a building fire on Wellington Street, Stockport.

“Crews arrived quickly and used two hose reels, six breathing apparatus and particle masks to extinguish the fire. Firefighters were in attendance for approximately three hours.”
