Four arrested after cops target Renfrewshire car-theft gang

Police Scotland has busted a gang of car thieves operating in Renfrewshire.

Four men were arrested after addresses were targeted in Barrhead, Irvine, Paisley and Johnstone areas.

The suspects, aged 34, 37, 39 and 41 were charged with car theft and related offences and are due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday.

Detective Inspector Robert Bowie, based at Paisley Police Office, revealed officers from Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Division’s Serious and Organised Crime Team were assisted by colleagues from Greater Glasgow and Ayrshire Division in the operation.

He said: “Our investigation is continuing into a number of car thefts and attempted car thefts that took place throughout the west of Scotland from December 2019 and June 2020.

“We are committed to tackling crimes that affect those living in our local communities, and we will use every resource available to ensure we trace the people responsible.

“If anyone has any concerns regarding criminal activity in their area, please contact your local police station through 101.

“Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
