"Forza Horizon 6" set in Japan for 2026 as full reveals still to come

Playground Games has confirmed that the next Forza Horizon game will be set in the iconic asphalt of Japan, with the launch planned for 2026.

The announcement came during Xbox's Tokyo Game Show broadcast today, followed by a teaser video that included the iconic view of Mount Fuji as well as the popular beckoning cat.

According to the official reveal, Forza Horizon 6 will arrive on both Xbox Series X | S and Windows PC and will be included with Game Pass at launch. Following the release of the game, Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios also plan to release it on PlayStation 5, making it a true multi-platform release like the games that came before it.

Japan, rife with car modifications and the home of the popular sport of drifting, has been highly requested by players for years now, with the country's culture being the perfect place for a game of this nature. With its mountain roads and vibrant Tokyo, it will offer plenty for gamers to explore.

The urban portion of the game will be incredibly detailed, according to information released so far. But more importantly, the team has indicated that seasons are going to return. Spring, summer, autumn and winter will each bring their own world, visuals and other changes.

The Horizon series of games has gone from strength to strength. After a run of solid releases from the developers, Horizon 5 released to 10 million players in week one, becoming the biggest debut of an Xbox game at the time.

“We’ve invested for years in Xbox so more people can play,” posted Xbox boss Phil Spencer at the time. “With 4.5+ million players so far across PC, cloud & console, Forza Horizon 5 shows that promise coming to life.

“Largest launch day for [an Xbox Game Studios] game, peak concurrent [players] 3x [Forza Horizon 4’s] high. Thank you players, and congrats to [Playground Games].”
