Epic Games has officially confirmed "Sonic the Hedgehog" is joining "Fortnite," turning months of leaks and speculation into a real, dated crossover.
The teaser arrived through "Sonic's" own social channels rather than "Fortnite's," giving fans their clearest signal yet that the upcoming season is leaning fully into gaming nostalgia.
'Fortnite' Teases 'Sonic' Crossover Coming
The official "Sonic the Hedgehog" account posted a short video on August 10, showing reality glitching before revealing Peely dashing through a loop-de-loop area resembling Sonic's iconic Green Hill Zone.
The clip ends with the title card for "Chapter 7 Season 4: Override," confirming the crossover is tied directly to the season launching August 20.
In the footage, Peely uses what appears to be a Sonic "Spin Dash Mythic" item to sprint up and down the vertical slope at high speed while collecting golden Rings scattered along the track.
The SEGA YouTube channel shared a matching version of the teaser with the caption "// HACKING Now: Sonic In For..t..."
A dedicated "Sonic" Green Hills Zone point of interest is also expected to join the map as part of the crossover.

'Sonic' Crossover Brings More Than Cosmetics
Unlike a typical skin drop, the reveal suggests Epic is building actual gameplay mechanics around the Sonic collaboration rather than treating it as a purely cosmetic tie-in, said ComicBook Gaming.
The Spin Dash Mythic shown in the teaser would let players move at Sonic-style speeds, potentially shifting mobility options for the season in a meaningful way rather than just adding another outfit to the Item Shop.
That approach lines up with a coded ARG that ran inside the official "Fortnite" Discord ahead of the reveal, where Lobby Hack codes reportedly granted players unique temporary abilities. Those clues suggest Epic is trying to weave each gaming franchise directly into "Override's" gameplay loop, rather than simply layering franchise skins on top of the existing Battle Royale formula.
'Fortnite' Chapter 7 Season 4 'Override'
Alongside Sonic, Epic has also confirmed a "Persona" crossover for the new season. Before the trailer's release, players uncovered a hidden ARG transmission titled "TakeYourHeart," a direct reference to the "Phantom Thieves'" signature calling card from "Persona 5," lending credibility to earlier leaks claiming a Joker skin would appear in the "Override" Battle Pass.
"Tetris" has also been confirmed as part of the crossover lineup, though exactly how it will factor into gameplay remains unclear. It was speculated that a "Tetris" game mode would appear inside the Battle Island in every match, allowing players who dropped in to play the iconic puzzle and strategy video game.
Trusted leakers HYPEX and ShiinaBR had previously datamined references pointing to additional names joining the gaming legends theme, including "Pac-Man," "Mega Man," and Dr. Robotnik, alongside speculation around "Kingdom Hearts."
While Epic has not confirmed every character on that list, ComicBook has speculated that retro gaming experiences from these franchises could be adapted directly onto "Fortnite's" Battle Island. This new crossover is expected to potentially deliver new points of interest, a reworked Battle Pass, and gameplay mechanics pulled from each series.
With "Override" just days away, more official confirmations are expected to follow before the season goes live on August 20.
