Fortnite raises V-Bucks prices, lowers Battle Pass cost

Your V-Bucks wallet in Fortnite is about to feel a little lighter. Epic Games is adjusting the value of its premium currency, giving players fewer coins per purchase while lowering the price of some passes.

Epic Games announced today that starting March 19, several pack tiers will contain fewer V-Bucks than before, effectively increasing their price. At the same time, the developer is lowering the cost of the Battle Pass and other progression passes as part of a broader adjustment to Fortnite’s in-game economy.

The developer said the change reflects the rising cost of operating the popular free-to-play title, prompting the company to revise how its premium currency and seasonal passes are priced.

Here are the new Fortnite V-Bucks pack changed prices:

  • $8.99 pack: 800 V-Bucks, previously 1,000.
  • $22.99 pack: 2,400 V-Bucks, previously 2,800.
  • $36.99 pack: 4,500 V-Bucks, previously 5,000.
  • $89.99 pack: 12,500 V-Bucks, previously 13,500.

The exact amount option will also change, with 50 V-Bucks costing $0.99 instead of roughly $0.50 previously. Players who purchase V-Bucks through the Epic Games Store or Epic’s payment system will still receive 20 percent back through Epic Rewards, which can be spent in Fortnite and the Epic Games Store.

Battle Pass price drops to 800 V-Bucks

While V-Bucks are becoming increasingly expensive, the developer is also lowering the prices of several Fortnite passes. The Battle Pass will now cost 800 V-Bucks, down from 1,000 V-Bucks. Completing the pass will also reward 800 V-Bucks, which is enough to purchase the next season’s pass.

However, the update removes the additional V-Bucks that previously appeared in the pass’s Bonus Rewards pages. In past seasons, players could earn up to 1,500 V-Bucks total, meaning dedicated players could accumulate extra currency while progressing through the pass to purchase cosmetics, but that won’t be possible now.

With the new structure, players will earn exactly the amount required to buy the next Battle Pass, but no additional V-Bucks beyond that.

Other Fortnite passes are also getting cheaper

Several other progression passes in Fortnite will also see their prices reduced.

Starting with their next releases:

  • OG Pass: 800 V-Bucks, previously 1,000.
  • Music Pass: 1,200 V-Bucks, previously 1,400.
  • LEGO Pass: 1,200 V-Bucks, previously 1,400.

The Battle Bundle, which includes the Battle Pass and 25 instantly unlocked levels, will also drop from 2,800 V-Bucks to 2,600 V-Bucks. The update will also affect Fortnite Crew, the game’s monthly subscription.

Fortnite Crew members currently receive 1,000 V-Bucks each month, but that grant will be revised to 800 V-Bucks once the new pricing structure goes live. Epic said subscribers will receive an email with more details about the timing of the change in their region.

Despite the adjustments, Epic confirmed that existing V-Bucks gift cards will still be redeemable at their printed values, meaning players who already own them will not be affected by the new pricing.
