Fortnite patch notes: Fortnitemares 2022 is coming in v22.20

As you may have expected now we’re in the spooky season, Fortnite is launching it’s annual Halloween event with the latest update. Known as Fortnitemares, this will offer a bunch of unique quests with special rewards and a bunch of XP. That’s not all though, as new skins, weapons, and game modes are coming along with it, making it the biggest Fortnitemares event yet. We’ll take you through everything that’s coming with this update, and how long you can expect it all to last.

If you’re looking for more Fortnite content, then make sure you’re caught up on the weekly challenges, and our summary of Chapter 3 Season 4.

Howler Claws - Fortnite

Running from now until November 1, Fortnitemares 2022 is dropping something very special into the map. When you drop into your next match head over to the Reality Tree and stand on an Alteration Altar, this will let you perform the ritual emote. It takes a little while, but once it’s completed you’ll get the new Howler Claws weapon.

With these you’ll unlock a couple of new abilities, the first is Wolfscent, a temporary tracking ability that lets you see nearby opponents through walls. Slash does exactly what you’d expect, dealing a significant amount of melee damage to opponents, with each slash in the combo dealing more damage. Finally, the Air Slash acts as a double jump that has the added bonus of hurting opponents when you land.

Zero Build Horde Rush - Fortnite

Horde Rush is a popular mode from previous Fortnitemares where mysterious creatures called Cube Monsters attack you and your squad in waves, with the goal being to survive as long as possible, rack up a high score, and eventually take down the boss. The difference this time is that it’s taking place in Zero Build mode, meaning you won’t be able to construct your own defenses, making your knowledge of the map crucial for survival.

Candy and Pumpkin Launcher unvaulted - Fortnite

It wouldn’t be Halloween without candy and pumpkins, so both are back this year. Candies are small items that give you little buffs when you eat them. Things like 10 health and shields, or temporary thermal vision. The Pumpkin Launcher is far more destructive, doing exactly what it says on the tin. In reality, it’s simply a reskin of the Rocket Launcher, but that doesn’t make it any less deadly.

Cosmetic rewards - Fortnite

Completing the Fortnitemares quests will earn you plenty of XP, but that’s not the only thing on the line this season. You can earn three different Chrome items depending on how many quests you complete over the next 14 days, bare in mind that two quests will be available every day.

  • Everything’s End glider – complete five quests.
  • Chrome Cage back bling – complete 13 quests.
  • Unmaker pickaxe – complete 25 quests.

Sinister Glare and Undying Sorrow - Fornite

Back in March, there was a Concept Royale contest for artists to design some new spooky Fortnite skins that would be added to the game at a later date. The winner’s designs are now here and they’re a sight to behold. First up is Sinister Glare, a creature with a hand for a head, and that hand has a glowing eyeball inside. The second is Undying Sorrow, a devilish creature with three eyes, horns, decaying skin, and just a single bone holding its body together.

Both of these outfits are available right now in the in-game item shop.
