Cast your eyes on the grandest of treasures Fortnite has to offer, and know that you may never get a chance to hold it. Season 7 just launched in Fortnite: Battle Royale, and with it a whole new suite of challenges to quest after. There’s the Tier-100 Ice King, of course, as well as the long-term “Snowfall” skin that asks players to complete ten weeks of challenges. Those are hard but doable: even less-talented players like myself can grab them with a little grit and verve. There’s one in there that no amount of grind will get for you, however. Every season comes with its own victory umbrella, available only to players that have made it to the top of the heap in Solos, Duos or Squads: large team modes won’t cut it. Let’s take a look, uncovered by @skintrackercom.

This is definitely one of the better umbrellas we’ve seen so far. Last year’s from around this time was just a flat blue affair with some snowflakes on it, and this represents the long journey the game has taken since then: all cosmetics are significantly more elaborate these days, and it’s nice to see the same ethos applied to the victory umbrella. The little 3-dimensional touch at the top is nice, and it’s a little less generic than most of what we’ve seen before. I’m still rocking my Chinese-themed umbrella from Season 3, and that’s definitely by choice. Definitely.
The umbrellas are one of the most charming things about Fortnite. The most ferocious warriors in the game are not gifted magical dragons or ghost trains to ride in on: those are available, but only as challenge rewards or item shop purchases. No, the surefire sign of a worthy opponent is a simple umbrella, a brutal Mary Poppins floating down to make you look like an idiot.
My umbrella doesn’t impart much fear these days: using it more or less communicates that I haven’t won for a few months, though I do also have the Season 5 umbrella, which is sort of meh. But if you see someone floating down with one of these new ones, know that not only have they won, they’ve won recently and are not to be trifled with.
