Former Vidarbha captain Shalabh Shrivastava announces retirement

NAGPUR: One of the most successful First-Class players from Vidarbha, Shalabh Shrivastava, has announced his retirement after playing in the domestic circuit for 13 seasons. He has officially informed Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) about his decision.

Shrivastava, who made his Ranji Trophy debut at the age of 19 in 2005, played Duleep Trophy, Deodhar Trophy and 68 First-Class matches. The 36-year-old Shrivastava retired as the third highest run-getter for Vidarbha with 3,360 runs, behind Faiz and Ganesh Satish. He played 32 one-day matches and 40 T20s during his career.

Shrivastava had captained Vidarbha in 2013-14 season and scored his highest FC score (193 runs) against Karnataka while he was skipper, at the Civil Lines ground.

The former captain was a decorated fielder in the Central Zone and won many matches by taking crucial catches and effecting run-outs. He also led Vidarbha to its first semifinal in Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy.

"It was both pleasure and joy to be a part of the Vidarbha team and Central Zone. I am indebted to VCA for providing opportunities and trusting my ability. I thank my family, fellow players, coaches and club members for constantly standing behind me. It is due to VCA and family that I could pursue my dream for 20 years," Shrivastava said.
