Former Tottenham manager predicts Thomas Tuchel to be unsuccessful in his Chelsea quest

Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp believes Chelsea won't finish inside the top four this season.

The veteran manager believes despite Thomas Tuchel being brought in to boost the side's chances of success this season, the Blues have not shown enough to suggest they are in contention for a Champions League place.

Chelsea are currently in seventh place in the Premier League and six points off the top four which is made up of Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Leicester.

A report in the Mail this week suggested Tuchel is in line for a contract extension if he can keep the Blues in the Champions League over the next two seasons.

Redknapp says that could be tricky for the former PSG boss as he believes the race for the title is between City and Liverpool, and United and his former side Spurs will end up making the top four at the ned of the current campaign.

Billy Gilmour staying at Chelsea is the right move

"Manchester City or Liverpool [will win it]," Redknapp said on Sky Sports News. "I suppose Manchester City are favourites. I was with Liverpool but I think Manchester City probably.

"There are two runners Man City and Liverpool, and then Manchester United and Tottenham.

"I do like Leicester, Brendan Rodgers has done a fantastic job there. They’re the team that could break into it and Chelsea have good players but I’m sticking with Manchester United and Tottenham as third and fourth."

Next up for Chelsea is a London derby with Spurs on Thursday night. Tuchel's side are looking to make it three games unbeaten under the German following the draw with Wolves and victory over Burnley last Sunday.

The Blues will leapfrog Jose Mourinho's side with a win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
