Former Top Gear presenter Sue Baker dies following battle with motor neurone disease

Former Top Gear presenter Sue Baker has died aged 67.

The award-winning motoring writer, editor and broadcaster battled motor neurone disease.

She was a presenter on the popular BBC TV car show from 1980 to 1991.

Her family paid tribute to her in a statement, saying: “It is with very great sadness, that we share the news of Sue’s passing.

"A doting mother to Ian and Hannah, a loving grandmother to Tom and George, a wonderful mother-in-law to Lucy.

"She passed at home this morning with family around her."

They described her as a "talented and prolific writer, a charismatic TV presenter, and a passionate animal lover".

Speaking of her life and career, they added: "[She] did it all with such grace that she was admired and respected by all who knew her. We know she meant so much to so many.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported her over the last few years as she battled with MND."

Sue was a former motoring editor of The Observer newspaper and was a vice-president of the Guild of Motoring Writers.

She had loved cars since childhood and ran a motor racing news service early in her career.

Sue leaves behind children Ian and Hannah, grandsons Tom and George and daughter-in-law Lucy.
