Former Spurs man highlights one of Jose Mourinho's biggest problems at Tottenham

BT Sport pundit Glenn Hoddle is adamant that Jose Mourinho should be doing more to get the best of the squad he currently has at his disposal at Tottenham Hotspur.

Hoddle made the claim prior to kick-off of Spurs' crunch UEFA Champions League last-16 second-leg tie with RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena this evening, with the North London club needing to overturn a one-goal deficit from the first-leg.

Spurs could not have wished to have taken a worse run of form into a match of such magnitude, with them having failed to win any of their last five matches in all competitions.

With Mourinho having come in for heavy criticism in recent weeks, Hoddle has launched another wave of criticism in the former Chelsea boss' direction, insisting that he must be doing better with the players he has.

"I don't think the squad is as good as he thought it was going to be at Tottenham and he has had his key players taken away from him," Hoddle told BT Sport.

"He has got to do better with the players that he has got - that is his biggest problem at this moment in time. He has not sort of pushed himself to the limits tactically to come up with something where he is going to get the best out this squad at this moment in time.

"That might come later down the line. He might need another transfer window to get some more players in that he wants."

As well as criticising Mourinho for his failures to be getting more out of his players, Hoddle, who managed Spurs between 2001-2003, also said that he is beginning to wonder if the Portuguese chief is beginning to doubt himself.

"I'll tell you what I do worry about as a Spurs man, I do worry if he has got self-doubts now, which he has never had in his career," Hoddle added. "That is a big problem if he has and that will only unfold in the next six, seven or eight months."
