Former Spartan WR Keith Mumphrey settles lawsuit with Michigan State

Back in 2017, it was revealed in the Detroit Free Press that former Michigan State wide receiver Keith Mumphrey had been expelled from his graduate studies program back in March of 2015 after being accused of sexually assaulting a female student in her dorm room.

Mumphrey was done with his playing career at the time of the incident, and according to the Free Press, he worked out for NFL scouts at the Spartans’ Pro Day the very next day. Mumphrey went on to be drafted in the fifth round of the NFL Draft by the Houston Texans. However, he was released after his Rookie season, which was the cause of his lawsuit. In the lawsuit, Mumphrey claimed that his expulsion has led to him being blackballed by the NFL.

The woman in the case and Mumphrey both share different accounts of the story and both filed separate lawsuits with the University of which you can read more about in the Detroit Free Press’ article.

Mumphrey and his agent expect him to play in the NFL again soon.
