Former Rockets coach Kevin McHale scores a home in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Feb. 20--What has Kevin McHale been up to since being let go by the Houston Rockets? Picking up a new home, for one.

The former Boston Celtics star and NBA head coach recently bought a house in Scottsdale, Ariz., for $1.47 million.

Found within a golf course community, the Tuscan-inspired contemporary was recently remodeled and has four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms in nearly 3,800 square feet of living space.

Open-plan interiors include an updated kitchen with a granite-topped island, living and dining rooms and a family room with a wet bar. Large pocket doors off the common areas bring the outdoors inside.

A fireplace and an open-air rain shower highlight the master suite. Another en suite bedroom has a copper sink and vanity.

Outdoors, a covered patio overlooks a swimming pool with a rock waterfall feature. An outdoor fire pit, a fountain and fire feature and a built-in barbecue complete the desert setting.

Dana Bloom of Re/Max Excalibur was the listing agent. Tracy Phillips of Re/Max Fine Properties repped the buyer in the sale.

McHale, 58, was a seven-time all-star and three-time NBA champion as a power forward for the Boston Celtics. He was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a player in 1999.

He was head coach of the Rockets from 2011 until November, when he was relieved from his position. He previously served as a coach and executive with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
